Letter carving is a practice that has been around for centuries – passed on to us from the Romans who designed letters using a brush which formed the classical written characters we know today.

The art of Lettering involves using chisels and a mallet to incise letters into the material, creating a play of light and shadow which makes the letter readable.

Cutting letters in wood is distinct from wood carving. It is an exercise in precision, but no two letters will look the same, which give hand carved letters their great character.
