Meet the Tutors

Joseph and Cassidie became friends whilst studying at City & Guilds of London Art School. Since both graduating in 2015 with a 3 year Diploma in Ornamental Wood Carving and Gilding, they have gone on to enjoy successful careers as professional wood carvers

  • Joseph Murphy

I took a traditional route to wood carving through carpentry and joinery. I worked for a number of years on site before training in Classical Wood Carving at City & Guilds of London Art School. My work combines conservation and restoration carving with commissions for original sculpture, uniting traditional methods with contemporary forms and themes while capturing fleeting moments in the natural world.

  • Cassidie Alder

I found my way to wood carving via a series of other wood working endeavours, including joinery, treehouse building, and historic timber framing, but eventually found myself on the precipice a 3 year Classical Wood Carving course at City & Guilds of London Art School. From day 1 I knew that I’d found the thing I wanted to dedicate myself to. My work is primarily commission based and covers all manner of styles and scales of project.
